The ability to update the Wi-Fi credentials of your WiZ devices using the WiZ Pro dashboard is a powerful feature. This feature is located in the "Settings" menu of the WiZ Pro dashboard.

WiFiCredentialsLocation

The main benefit of this feature is the ability to save the new Wi-Fi credentials (SSID and/or password) to your WiZ devices that are already online before the new Wi-Fi network is deployed.

Before using this feature, it is important to keep the following steps in mind:

  1. Your WiZ-enabled device should be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Your new Wi-Fi Network could be either:
    • Already accessible on site (coexistence),
    • Commissioned later (note the timing and connection retires, described below).
  3. You should know the Wi-Fi credentials (SSID and password) of the new network.

Here is what you should not do:

  • Don't disconnect the existing Wi-Fi network that the WiZ devices are connected to and then try to update the Wi-Fi credentials.
  • If the Wi-Fi network is disconnected, your WiZ devices will loose their connection to the cloud and consequenlty, you will not be able to save the credentials of the new Wi-Fi network to the WiZ devices.

Below are the key steps to follow for this feature:

  • With your WiZ devices connected to the Wi-Fi network, click on "Update Wi-Fi Credentials".
  • Enter the credentials of the new Wi-Fi network.
    • You will notice the date and time when the Wi-Fi credentials of the original network was saved.
  • Click "Save".
  • WiFiCredentialsSave
  • Here is what is happening in the background:
    •  When or if the devices are online and connected to the WiZ cloud, the WiZ devices will save the new credentials in its secondary memory. It does not get rid of the old credentials just yet.
    •  They will try to connect using the new credentials.
    • If the connection fails the first time,
    • The WiZ devices try again after each AC power cycle (OFF->ON)
    • If this fails, the WiZ devices will try every hour.
    • After a total of 30 tries, if still unsuccessful, the devices will stop trying and return and error message to the cloud.
  • When the devices successfully connects to the new Wi-Fi network (with the new credentials), it will set these credentials as primary and remove the old ones from the devices storage. It will also notify the WiZ cloud that it successfully connected to WiZ cloud.
